Rachel has worked very hard for the past three years to complete her Personal Progress. There are eight values in the Personal Progress program: Faith, Divine Nature, Individual Worth, Knowledge, Choice and Accountability, Good Works, Integrity and Virtue. For each of the eight values, Rachel worked to achieve many goals, including a 10-hour project. I was able to review, approve and check off Rachel's accomplishments on an easy-to-navigate chart on the website. For the final value, Virtue, Rachel was required to read the entire Book of Mormon as her culminating project.
Rachel learned this piano piece for another of her 10-hour projects. It's become the soundtrack of our New Zealand home experience. The song is entitled "Cristofori's Dream" by David Lanz.
Upon completion of the program, Rachel was recognized by our Bishop in Sacrament Meeting and was awarded her Young Womanhood Recognition accompanied by a beautiful medallion necklace. While the young women are encouraged to complete this program in six years (ages 12-18), we are so proud of Rachel for working hard to finish in half that time.
It was so sweet that Rachel received her award and medallion on the Sunday that Ray and Danita were here visiting. We didn't plan for it to happen that way, but the timing was serendipitous. Since we love any reason to celebrate, we tried to make the whole day special for Rachel.
The decorations and treats were Julia's idea. She is always so thoughtful.
Congratulations, Rachel! We love you and we're so proud of you.
